Down here at Humble Cottage I am always looking forward to finding new projects to extend my creative ideas and make into new products. My original idea was to print my own fabrics using different techniques, but initially i got a bit lost in where to take these ideas. Now that I have a good central core of wares that I am happy with, I am going to explore fabric printing in the upcoming months. So where to start!
Have you come across Spoonflower yet- its a digital fabric company based in America, where people design and print their own fabrics and can then sell them on to people that love (hopefully) their designs. Here’s a selection of designs that I like. You can click on the pictures to go to the original design.
I like mixing up some computer aided design alongside home made diy approaches, so in the upcoming months I will also be trying some of the following techniques.
Using my inkjet printer and freezer paper:
Using linoblocks to do some block fabric printing, like this:
There’s some great ideas on apartmenttherapy’s site:
I love the scale of block printing used in Galbraith & Pauls block printed work.
Here’s a great little video explaining some techniques from Home Sweet
I’m also going to try stencil printing:
and so, so much more..using my silhouette cameo to make stencils, using my gocco machine to make small printed items – watch this space!
